When you come in for regular hygiene cleanings and oral examinations at our dental office in Orleans, we can help you prevent oral health issues and keep your smile healthy.
Ideally twice a year, you'll book a regular oral exam to allow your dentist the opportunity to identify any oral health issues and create a plan to treat them accordingly.
Your dentist will examine your mouth and closely check the health of your teeth, gums, jaw and bite. Exams may also involve dental X-rays, an oral cancer screening and other diagnostic procedures.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer can impact any part of the mouth or its surrounding tissues. During your exam, your dentist will assess the face, neck, throat, tongue, lips, gums and tissues for any signs of oral cancer which can be difficult to detect for the casual observer.
Daily Oral Healthcare
Make sure to brush twice a day for two minutes each time, and floss at least once a day to keep your smile healthy between dental appointments.
The dental hygienist will perform a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums before or after your exam to prevent and treat disease.
To start, they will remove any plaque and tartar buildup using a scaler. Next, a polisher and coarse toothpaste will be used to remove any remaining stains or plaque. This will be followed by a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Are you or your child at high risk of tooth decay? Your dentist might also recommend a fluoride treatment. This natural mineral can help to rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
